This study was designed to compare the ability of periodontal reunion and changes of
fibroblasts according to the different storage methods for the exarticulated teeth.
In the present investigation, intentional replantations were performed for 81-rats' left
upper first molar which had been stored in the dry air, the milk, the physiologic saline
for 30 minutes.
For the findings of transmission electron microscope, 27 animals were sacrified 1, 2
and 3 days after replantation, while 36 animals were sacrified 3, 7, 14, 28 days after
replantation for the findings of light microscope.
18 animals which had been subdivided for the immediate group, the replantations were
not performed. Only periodontal ligaments of extracted teeth were examed for both
microscopic findings.
The following conclusions could be drawn from the present investigation:
1. Storaging in saline, the electron microscope revelaed that a general shape of
fibroblasts was almostly normal at the immediate group. After 1-day survival period,
heterochromatin was clumped and the cell membrane was indistincted. But thenceforce
3-day survival period, the cell membrane was appeared to be distinct, and there was an
aspect of synthesis of new collagen fibers.
2. Storaging in milk, the cell membrane of fibroblast was not clear and morphologic
change of nucleus was seen at the immediate group. After 1-day survival period,
membrane of nucleus was indistincted and mitochondrias were swollen. But thenceforce
3-day survival period, membrane of nucleus was appeared to be distinct and there was
increasing tendency of rER and Golgi apparatus.
3. In the case of air dry, degeneration of fibroblast was seen at all experimental
groups.
4. Storaging in saline, photomicrograph showed reunion of periodontal ligament in
7-day survival period.
5. Storaging in milk, reunion of periodontal ligament was seen in 28-day survival
period.
6. In the case of air dry, there was no sign of periodontal healing during the
experimental periods.
